Physics Textbook for A High School Student

AI Thread Summary
For a 17-year-old interested in physics and studying Leonard Susskind's lectures, it's recommended to consider his books on Classical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics. These texts are designed for those with some prior knowledge of calculus and physics, as they aim to reeducate individuals who may have forgotten foundational concepts. While Susskind's materials are comprehensive, they may not be suitable for complete beginners or those seeking simpler explanations. For someone with limited English proficiency, it may be beneficial to look for introductory physics textbooks that use simpler language while still covering essential concepts.

If you're watching the Susskind videos then you should consider getting his two books on Classical Mechanics and on Quantum Mechanics. Remember though that Susskind has said these are theoretical minimum that one must know to learn physics. Also they are different from high school physics in that his goal is to reeducate people who have taken college physics or related courses in the past and now would really like to learn it again ie they had calculus but have forgotten much of it...

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
