PI controller (feed back control) for boost converter

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the design and implementation of a PI controller for a boost converter circuit. Participants are seeking guidance on circuit connections, gain adjustments, and feedback mechanisms within the context of control systems for power electronics.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested
  • Mathematical reasoning

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the correctness of the circuit connections in a PSPICE schematic for a boost converter.
  • Another participant questions the feedback path, suggesting that the system may be running open loop and seeking clarification on the feedback mechanism.
  • A different participant asserts that the system is a closed loop and proposes that the negative of the VCONTROL should connect to the output of the VCAP to establish feedback.
  • There are inquiries about how to adjust the proportional (KP) and integral (KI) gains of the PI controller, with requests for rules of thumb regarding these adjustments.
  • Further questions arise about the appropriate setting for the integral gain constant and the desired voltage for VCONTROL, specifically whether it should be set to 300V.
  • Participants also seek confirmation on the settings for the V-PULSE component in the circuit.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express uncertainty regarding the feedback path and the proper configuration of the PI controller gains. There is no consensus on the adjustments needed for the controller or the correct settings for the circuit components.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include potential missing assumptions about the circuit design, dependencies on specific definitions of gain adjustments, and unresolved details regarding the feedback mechanism and its implementation.

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to put together a PI controller for a boost converter.

Vin = 150V
Vout = 300V (Require this much boost)

Switching Frequency = 25KHz

I am attaching a schematic in PSPICE. Please , someone, tell me if the connections are right. Also V-PULSE / SAWTOOTH = (0 - 10V) . Original Design for : Duty Cycle 50 % . How do I adjust the KI and the KP ? Any rule of thumb for this.

TR = 39.9us
TF = 0.01us
PW = 20u
PER = 40u
All other parameters in V-PULSE SET TO ZERO.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the feedback path. Is this running open loop under the influence of VCONTROL?

No, it is a closed loop system. I think the negative of the VCONTROL should go to the output of the VCAP. That should provide a feedback path. Assuming that is done. How do I adjust the gains ?

Also, how do I adjust the voltage on the Integral gain constant ? How much should VCONTROL be ? should it be set to 300V, and the settings on VPULSE , Are those OK ?
