Please show me some group theory books

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding group theory books that address the intersection of quantum mechanics and relativity, particularly focusing on the concept of fields. A key point raised is the significance of the irreducible representations of the Poincaré group, which lead to infinite-dimensional representations and the necessity of fields in theoretical physics. Weinberg's book is highlighted as a popular choice, especially noted for its engaging second chapter, which draws readers' interest. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding these advanced concepts in the context of modern physics.

Please show me some group theory books that considering the combination of quantum mechanics and relativity theory that leads to the needing of notion of fields.I have heard that the irreducible representation of Poicare group leading to the infinite dimensions representation(meaning field notion).Which books consider that problem?

All of them. People get attracted by the second chapter of Weinberg's book, though.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
