AI Thread Summary
Printing a file on a computer without the necessary software or fonts can be challenging. One user sought to print a document using a specialized font installed on their personal computer but faced issues when trying to print from a computer lab that lacked the font. Attempts to create a PDF file failed due to font recognition issues, and pasting the document into Paint resulted in a loss of resolution. A suggested solution involves embedding the font within the Word document, which is an option available in Microsoft Office. However, there were reports that this method did not work for the user. Another alternative mentioned is copying the required font from the Windows fonts directory to a portable storage device and then transferring it to the school computer, although this method may have limitations with certain commands.

Is there a way that I can print a file on a computer that doesn't have software to read the file?

I have a very specialized font installed for MS word on my computer, but no printer. I have access to a computer lab with excellent printing resources, but these computers will not have the particular font. I would really like to use the computer lab superior printing capabilities.

I tried creating a *.pdf file, but the computer said it didn't recognize the font.

I tried pasting into paint, but I lost a butt load of resolution.

You should be able to embed the font within the word doc. Its an option, but I don't recall were or how to do it. Ask the stupid dog/paper clip for some help on embedded fonts. I'm sure its covered in M$ Office help.

Thanks, faust9. I'll try that when I get home.

Lol, yea that dog-paper clip is annoying...

Or... go to c:\windows\fonts directory and copy the font you need to a floppy and then paste the font from the floppy to the ..\fonts directory on the computer at your School. Sometimes it is picky with the copy and paste command but dragging and dropping the font will work.

HTH,

Just FYI to anyone, the embedding did not work.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
