I guess that's the tomato sauce. However, if you include the carbs from the pasta, you will get an even higher number.

I gave up carbs over 14 years ago. I had exhausted all of the options provided by doctors, including one of the nation's leading experts, to gain control of my very unusual variant on diabetes. Out of desperation (after passing out from the sugar in half an orange) I tried a ketogenic diet. Keto was considered very risky and fringe back then but I was truly desperate. My health was declining rapidly and I was on the fast train to the grave.

For a long time I was in and out of hard ketosis, (at 25 grams of carbs per day total). Then went to more of a maintenance mode, typically < 100 grams of carbs a day. It was and is still incredibly difficult to avoid all of the carbs and sugar in foods. I remember walking into a 7-11 one day to grab a snack and there was almost nothing in the store I could eat. I think nuts were about the only thing. Sugar is added to almost everything! Recently I even saw the sugar in the raw corn tortillas I have been buying for 20 years, has increased.

I managed to reprogram my body, and for the first time in my life an gained control of my blood sugar. All in all I have eaten virtually no bread, pasta, sugar, beans, rice, corn, potatoes and all derivatives of potatoes, alcohol including beer, or anything else with a high carb count like BBQ sauce and other condiments, in over 14 years. It is my normal now. At this point it would seem very strange to eat something like a sandwich or a plate of pasta.

One thing I quickly noticed was how much weight bread adds to foods to go. If I stopped and got a hamburger, I would eat the meat and cheese and lettuce but throw the buns back into the bag. I noticed the buns where were often the majority of the weight of the total sandwich. The buns must have filler to add weight; to make it seem like you are getting more food than you are.

Beans surprised me, but it explains a lot. I used to drink beer regularly and once wanted to know whether I was addicted or not. I thought I was. However, it turned out that I'm addicted to carbs rather than alcohol. And I like beans.

Beer is a bit of a mystery to me. I tried having a beer once about 12 years ago and it took me out of commission for a weekend. They claim the carb count includes any remaining maltose but my reaction says otherwise. That or maybe I have some kind of allergy or lack the maltase enzyme.

Before I understood my blood sugar issues, I knew I didn't tolerate alcohol. Even a little alcohol made me feel horrible. I didn't understand it but the cause and effect were eventually undeniable. I ended up quitting drinking on my 21st birthday.

I should add that over the first year I lost 60 pounds while simultaneously adding a lot of muscle. I started a regular exercise program after I started losing weight.. Eventually I got into great shape doing high-intensity-interval training on the elliptical, lifting weights, and swimming. Within another year I was performing at levels not seen since my 20s. I also landed a dating life I never could have imagined. I have often considered that I've lived more in the last 13 years than in all the previous years combined. It has been an amazing adventure. I wish I could share the details but it has been far too wild for that.

Anyway, not bad considering I thought my life was over long ago. Little did I know I was about to start the greatest adventure of my life.

I'm addicted to both.
I just bought 10 lbs of dried beans over the last few days.
Not sure about the fish I'm currently smoking.
Brined them in a 2:1 sugar:salt mixture last night.
Currently trying to smoke them.
Cheech says it's cool.
Chong says my smoke smells like fish.
Arghh.......
If you can't please, the one you're with,
give them some more smoked fish.
