Shear Pin Stress Concentration V-Notch vs. U shape grooved in bending

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on the need for resources that compare stress concentrations in shear pins with V-notch grooves versus rounded grooves under bending conditions. The user is seeking specific charts or images that illustrate these differences, as existing references primarily address torsion rather than bending. They mention having found limited resources, including a reference to Roark's book and Petersen's Stress Concentration Factors, but these do not fully meet their needs. The request emphasizes the importance of visual aids in understanding the stress risers for different groove shapes. Overall, the conversation highlights a gap in available literature regarding shear pin stress concentrations in bending scenarios.

Can someone link a website or attach a picture of a chart distinguishing the differences between the stress risers in a shear pin (round circular shaft) with a V-notch groove versus if it was a rounded groove. I have been looking but can only find charts, tables and graphs for round circular bars with rounded grooves in beninding.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

I had already seen this reference but unfortunately it only provides regerence to V-notch in torsion, but not bending.

The only other reference is Petersen's Stress Concentration Factors, Ref. 6.1 from the attachment.

Thread 'Physics of Stretch: What pressure does a band apply on a cylinder?'
Scenario 1 (figure 1) A continuous loop of elastic material is stretched around two metal bars. The top bar is attached to a load cell that reads force. The lower bar can be moved downwards to stretch the elastic material. The lower bar is moved downwards until the two bars are 1190mm apart, stretching the elastic material. The bars are 5mm thick, so the total internal loop length is 1200mm (1190mm + 5mm + 5mm). At this level of stretch, the load cell reads 45N tensile force. Key numbers...
I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
