Courses Should You Take Graduate Courses in Your Major or Additional Physics Classes?

AI Thread Summary
Taking graduate courses in your B.S. major instead of physics electives can enhance your graduate school application and provide a stronger foundation in your field. While electives offer a broader understanding of engineering or science, they may not significantly impact graduate admissions. It's important to note that most graduate programs do not grant credit for prior graduate coursework, requiring students to complete their own graduate-level classes to ensure proficiency. Balancing graduate courses with physics classes can be beneficial, but the focus should be on aligning coursework with long-term career goals and graduate school requirements.

Would it be more beneficial to take graduate courses in your B.S. major in place of electives than taking physics classes? I would like to take as many physics classes as possible but if it will help me get into graduate school or be a better engineer i would want to take graduate courses

Electives give you a broader view of the entire subject, whether it is engineering of science. I would not discount them on your graduate application. Another point can be made, most grad schools do not give you credit for prior graduate coursework, they make you take in over so they are satisfied you know it.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
