Vector Analysis of Point Charges: Solving for Net Force

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around solving for the net force on point charges using vector analysis. The user presents their calculations for forces between point charges, including specific equations and results for F_1,2, F_3,2, and F_4,2. They express uncertainty about the simplicity of their solution and seek confirmation from others. The final net force is calculated as ΣF = 0.386i + 0.98j. The user thanks a participant for their help but indicates difficulty with another problem.

Homework Statement

i think i may have solved this but I am worried I am wrong because it seemed too simple. I wouldn't bother posting too check except that its for an assignment... the question is in the attachment- can someone please check this!

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

F_1,2=(3*10^(-6)^2*9*〖10〗^9)/〖0.6〗^2
=0.225i

F_3,2=(3*10^(-6)^2*9*〖10〗^9)/〖0.3〗^2
=0.9j

F_4,2=(3*10^(-6)^2*9*10^9)/(〖0.6〗^2+〖0.3〗^2 )
=0.18cosθ+0.18 sinθ
θ=tan^(-1)〖0.3/0.6〗
F_4,2=0.161i+0.080j

ΣF=0.161i+0.225i+0.9j+0.080J
=0.386i+0.98j

that looks correct,

thanks ush - can't get the other one though

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
