What Are the Best Creative Designs for a Water Balloon Launcher Project?

AI Thread Summary
The project requires building a water balloon launcher capable of reaching 200 yards without using compressed air. Suggested designs include slingshots and catapults, while more advanced concepts like coil guns or Gauss rifles are deemed impractical for this application. The idea of using a vacuum spring is also considered, though its effectiveness is uncertain. Participants are encouraged to share innovative or unconventional ideas for launching water balloons. Creative solutions are sought to meet the project’s requirements effectively.

My teacher assigned a project in which we have to build a device that will launch a water balloon at least 200 yards, the only restriction being that the use of compressed air is prohibited.

I have already thought of several designs using a slingshot or catapult. It would be wonderful to be able to use a coil gun or a Gauss rifle, but I believe that I will not be able to make one large enough to launch a water balloon.

I was wondering if any of you have any more...creative, or destructive, ideas and would be willing to let me use them.

Another idea would be using a vacuum spring, but I don't know if it would generate enough force.

a slingshot type idea would probably work:

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
