What did the Mars rovers discover about Earth from the Martian surface?

AI Thread Summary
The Mars rovers captured the first view of Earth from the Martian surface, including images of the Orion constellation and partial solar eclipses. Although these photos are intriguing, many users expressed disappointment with the quality, questioning the capabilities of the rovers' high-resolution color cameras. It was clarified that these astronomy photos were not part of the main mission, serving instead as a fun side project. The rovers prioritize high-resolution imaging of Martian rocks and landscapes, which requires more time and energy. Overall, the discussion highlights the balance between scientific objectives and exploratory photography.

Disappointing pictures, tho

I thought the rovers had high-quality digital COLOR cameras? Why don't they use them ?

Because these astronomy photos were not part of the main mission. They're just a quick & fun little side project. They save the big guns for the rocks & landscape. (high-res photos take more time & energy and the rovers are limited in both)

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Thread 'Could gamma-ray bursts have an intragalactic origin?'
This is indirectly evidenced by a map of the distribution of gamma-ray bursts in the night sky, made in the form of an elongated globe. And also the weakening of gamma radiation by the disk and the center of the Milky Way, which leads to anisotropy in the possibilities of observing gamma-ray bursts. My line of reasoning is as follows: 1. Gamma radiation should be absorbed to some extent by dust and other components of the interstellar medium. As a result, with an extragalactic origin, fewer...
