SUMMARY

The luminosity of Earendel, a star with a mass estimated between 50-100 solar masses, is approximately 1,000,000 times that of the Sun. It has a surface temperature exceeding 20,000 K, making it significantly hotter than the Sun. In comparison, UW Canis Majoris, while hotter at around 30,000 K, has a lower mass of about 40 solar masses and a luminosity of over 330,000 times that of the Sun. These figures highlight Earendel's extraordinary size and temperature within the context of stellar classification.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram
  • Knowledge of stellar classification and properties
  • Familiarity with concepts of stellar mass and temperature
  • Basic astrophysics principles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram in detail
  • Explore the characteristics of massive stars in the Main Sequence
  • Study the properties and classification of UW Canis Majoris
  • Investigate the implications of high-temperature stars on stellar evolution

I just read an article about it, and an internet search & Wikipedia did not have this information. A rough interpretation of the HR diagram for a mass of 75 suns in Main Sequence) says it is about 106 suns.

10^6 sounds about right. It is both much larger and much hotter than the Sun, being 50-100 solar masses and more than 20,000 K, between 3-4 times as hot as the Sun. As a comparison, UW Canis Majoris is hotter, at roughly 30,000 K, but is much smaller, with mass estimates placing it, at most, around 40 solar masses. Its luminosity is upwards of 330,000 times greater than the Sun.
