AI Thread Summary
Thermal paste, often referred to as thermopaste, is a substance applied between a processor chip and a heatsink to enhance heat transfer efficiency. It minimizes air gaps, ensuring better thermal conductivity and preventing overheating. The discussion also raises the question of whether thermal paste serves the same function as silicone greases, which are used for similar thermal management purposes. Applying thermal paste to a surface can help retain heat, preventing loss to the environment. Understanding these materials is crucial for effective temperature measurement in experiments.

i am doing an experiment to measure the temperature of the surface of the filament, i using thermocopule, my teacher told me to use thermopaste on bulb to measure the temperature. Can some 1 tell me what thermopaste is and what does thermopaste do.
thanks

thermo or thermal paste?
I have heard of thermal paste - you put it between your processor chip and the heatsink in a computer in order to increase the efficiency of the heat transfer

thermal paste i guse

so if i put thermal paste on the surface it would make sure that the heat of the surface is not lost to the enviroment.

Also what is thermo paste?

one more question is thermal paste same as silicon greases, meaning do they have same function.

TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
Thread 'Variable mass system : water sprayed into a moving container'
Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
