What Material is Best for Mounting a Heavy, Non-Magnetic Apparatus?

AI Thread Summary
For mounting a heavy, non-magnetic apparatus, aluminum is a common suggestion, but if additional strength is required, titanium is recommended as a suitable alternative. Both materials are lightweight and can meet the necessary strength requirements for various applications. The discussion highlights the importance of considering the weight of the apparatus, which can range significantly. Users emphasize the need for materials that exhibit weak magnetic properties to avoid interference with the apparatus's function. Ultimately, titanium is presented as a viable option for heavier applications.

I have a heavy apparatus I am working on which needs to be mounted onto a plate (or some other support structure). The plate material has to be high strength, light-weight, and display very weak magnetic properties. Any suggestions for a material?

Thank you.

"Heavy" might mean anything from 10kg to 1000 tonnes depending what sort of engineering you do.

Since you want it to be non-magnetic, if aluminum isn't strong enough, you could try titanium.
