AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a final year project involving the design and construction of a solid-state microphone preamp using op-amps, featuring a differential input, variable gain control, and a differential line driver for studio recordings. The creator seeks guidance on what to include in their project report, expressing difficulty with line-level amplification techniques. Suggestions include researching microphone preamp specifications to understand industry standards and formats for reporting. Additionally, the report should address how the project was built, tested, and whether it met expectations. Comprehensive documentation will enhance the project's credibility and clarity.

hi guys

i have as a final year project to design and build a mic preamp. i choosed to use solid state topology for my project with the use of opamp. my design has no transformers and it come in three main parts
Differential input
Variable gain control
Differential line driver
it's a 4 channel and it's supposed to be suitable for studio recordings
I am near finished it and i am in the stage of writting the report and i need some help about what i have to include. i hope that you as you are more expert and have more knowledge at audio engineering can help me by giving me some tips what i have to include because I'm really stuck with the techniques that are out there for line level amplification.

Thanks for reading
Im open to any advice at all.

What did you build? How did you test it? Did it work like you expected? What were you expecting? At a minimum, answers to these questions should appear in your report.

Welcome to the PF.

In addition to lewando's advice, try googling microphone preamp specifications. That will give you some great hits on how other specify their audio preamps. You can follow some of those formats, and be sure that you have tested your project against the types of specifications that the industry uses.
