Which Event Will Happen First?

AI Thread Summary
The future of Earth and its cosmic environment includes several significant events. In approximately 5 billion years, the Sun is expected to engulf the Earth. The Earth's magnetic field undergoes periodic reversals every 500,000 years, but it will eventually cease to function when the core solidifies, a process that will take longer than 5 billion years. The Moon is gradually moving away from Earth, which may stabilize at a certain distance, but concerns about tidal locking with the Sun could arise, leading to one side of Earth permanently facing the Sun. Lastly, the Andromeda galaxy's merger with the Milky Way will have minimal impact on Earth, as the vast distances between stars mean that the event will not be noticeable to most observers.

Could you guys list what's going to happen in order for me thanks.

1) Sun engulfs the earth
2) Earths magnetic field disintegrates
3) The moon travels too far away and we lose the tides
4) Andromeda galaxy kills us

Thanks again

About 5Bn yr
2) Earths magnetic field disintegrates
The Earth's field drops to nothing and reappaers the other way round about every 0.5M yr, it's not a big deal. The Earth's field will finally stop when the core solidifies - probably longer than 5bn yr
3) The moon travels too far away and we lose the tides
Not an expert but I think the earth-moon distance stabilises at some value. What you have to worry about are Earth-sun tidal locking, when we end up with the same side facing the sun.
4) Andromeda galaxy kills us
The andromeda merger won't even be noticed unless you are an astonomer. The stars in a galaxy are rather far apart - it's like releasing a couple of toy boats on opposite sides of the pacific and claiming that they merge.

Thread 'The Secrets of Prof. Verschure's Rosetta Stones'
(Edit: since the thread title was changed, this first sentence is too cryptic: the original title referred to a Tool song....) Besides being a favorite song by a favorite band, the thread title is a straightforward play on words. This summer, as a present to myself for being promoted, I purchased a collection of thin sections that I believe comprise the research materials of Prof. Rob Verschure, who at the time was faculty in the Geological Institute in Amsterdam. What changed this...
On August 10, 2025, there was a massive landslide on the eastern side of Tracy Arm fjord. Although some sources mention 1000 ft tsunami, that height represents the run-up on the sides of the fjord.
