Why Did Vancouver Introduce Unusual Animal Crossing Signs?

haha, I once saw a sign that read..

"Caution: This sign has sharp edges."

I can't find any photos but they have new 'animal crossing' signs here in vancouver, featuring Crocodiles, Elephants, Kangaroos etc. people were ignoring the deer crossing ones - so they got creative.

Aren't they supposed to ignore deer crossings? It seems to me that people should cross at pedestrian crossings.
