AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on Viktor Frankl's talk about the search for meaning in life, with mixed reactions regarding his message. Some participants express skepticism, arguing that aiming high is a common motivational theme that doesn't address the complexities of life. They emphasize that achieving goals is not solely about ambition; idealistic individuals may accomplish more but often face unhappiness. Critics suggest that such advice is typical of self-help literature and may lack realism. However, there is appreciation for Frankl's idea of applying the principle of aiming high not just for personal gain but also in relation to others, highlighting a more altruistic perspective on achieving meaning in life.

Not impressive IMO. He seems to have misunderstanding of life.

Aim for the heavens, you'll land in the stars.. same message.. It's a very good message. If you aim for mediocre you will land in the gutter.. no big mystery there..

1) But there's more than making and achieving aims.
2) Idealistic people tend to get done more things but they also likely to be unhappy

Saying that, you would only see those kind of advices in How to be Successful books .. far away from being realistic.

What impressed me was that he was proposing to apply that principle to other people, not (just) to one's self.
