Coeliac disease, vitamin absorption

AI Thread Summary
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine, resulting in malabsorption syndrome. The primary treatment for coeliac disease is strict adherence to a gluten-free diet, which is essential for managing symptoms and preventing complications. Individuals with coeliac disease must completely avoid gluten-containing foods, similar to how those with lactose intolerance must avoid lactose. Ongoing consultation with gastroenterology specialists is often necessary for effective management of the condition.
