AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the distinction between subspecies and species, particularly in the context of humans. It clarifies that a subspecies is a population within a species that does not interbreed with other populations, often due to non-biological factors, which can eventually lead to speciation. The conversation also touches on the classification of Neanderthals, questioning whether they are a subspecies or a separate species. Additionally, there is interest in understanding how to determine the emergence of a new subspecies of Homo sapiens. Recommendations for accessible literature on this topic are sought, emphasizing the need for clear explanations of these biological concepts.

I am trying to get a better understanding of subspecies vs species notably for humans. For example are Neanderthals a subspecies or separate species or if a new subspecies of Homo Sapiens were to emerge how would decide that there is a new subspecies
Is there a good book that explains this in layman's terms.
