AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on calculating a bee's motion based on its speed, distance, and time. The average speed of the bee is determined to be 8 m/s from the ratio 2/(1/4). The reciprocal ratio (1/4)/2 indicates the time taken per meter, which is crucial for understanding motion dynamics. To find the distance the bee flies in one-eighth of a second, the average speed is applied, leading to a calculation of 1 meter. Finally, the time taken for the bee to fly 10 meters is derived using the same average speed, emphasizing the consistent application of the speed formula.

Homework Statement

4. A bee flies a distance of 2m in only one-quarter of a second.
(a) From the ratio 2/(1/4) , what can you infer about the bee’s motion?
(b) From the ratio (1/4)/2 , what can you infer about the bee’s motion?
(c) In one eighth of a second, what would be the distance that the bee has flown?
(d) How long does it take the bee to fly 10m?

Homework Equations

speed = distance traveled / time

The Attempt at a Solution

a) ... it gives the average speed of h bee's travel.. i think?
b) ... i have no idea
c) i use the average speed to calculate it
d) i also use the average speed to calculate it

PLEASE HELP

a) looks right... the average speed of the bee is 2/(1/4) = 8m/s

For b) 2/(1/4) gives the number of meters traveled per second... so what does the reciprocal give: 1/4/2... the units are seconds per meter...

c) d = v*t. use the speed from part a)

d) again use d = v*t, using the speed from part a).

Thread 'Variable mass system : water sprayed into a moving container'
Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
I was thinking using 2 purple mattress samples, and taping them together, I do want other ideas though, the main guidelines are; Must have a volume LESS than 1600 cubic centimeters, and CAN'T exceed 25 cm in ANY direction. Must be LESS than 1 kg. NO parachutes. NO glue or Tape can touch the egg. MUST be able to take egg out in less than 1 minute. Grade A large eggs will be used.
