Defining Flux in the Context of Electric Fields

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating electric field strength using a 124 cm diameter loop and its measured maximum electric flux of 6.33 x 10^5. Participants clarify that in a uniform electric field, the calculation does not require integration, only multiplication. There is some confusion about the definition of flux and the correct approach to the equation. The conversation emphasizes understanding the concept of flux as the flow of electric field vectors. Ultimately, the focus remains on determining the electric field strength based on the given parameters.

A 124 cm diameter loop is rotated in a uniform electric field until the position of the maximum electric flux is found. The flux in this position is measured to be 6.33 x 105.
What is the electric field strength?

Hi nslinker!

What is the definition of flux?

Even though an electric field doesn't actually "flow," I think of it as the flow of electric field vectors, either inward or outward.

After reading it, I still don't know how to get to the correct equation, whether it's just plug-and-chug or if I have to integrate.

It's a uniform electric field …

so integrating it is just multiplying.

So, there is no integration involved, just multiplication?

grrr … get on with it!

so just 1.24 m x (6.33 x 10 ^5)?

Why do you think it's that?

Start with the following question (which you never answered):
