AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on the use of potentiometers in a digital volt meter circuit, specifically their roles in setting the reference voltage and adjusting the input voltage. The potentiometer on the right side of the diagram is used to establish a reference voltage of 4V, ensuring that the displayed output voltage ranges from 0 to 3.999 volts. Meanwhile, the left-side potentiometer is adjusted to modify the input voltage. Participants also discuss the importance of checking specifications on the integrated circuit (IC) to ensure proper connections to the potentiometers, highlighting potential issues if specifications are not met. Understanding these components is crucial for accurate voltage measurement in the circuit.

This circuit was used to make a digital volt meter. What I'm confused about is the exact use of the potentiometer on the RHS of the diagram. I know is was used to set the "reference voltage" to 4V and all all output voltages from the meter would be from 0-3.999 volts when displayed. The potentiometer on the LHS is varied to change the input voltage.

Well since you get it now...

Quiz Question -- what specs would you check on that IC to be sure that its connections to the potentiometers were done correctly? What could potentially happen if a certain spec on those two pins weren't what you wanted?
