Do mecanum wheels move foward and sideways at the same rate?

AI Thread Summary
Mecanum wheels allow for both forward and sideways movement, but the distance traveled in each direction may differ. When all motors move forward one rotation, the robot moves forward a certain distance, denoted as x cm. However, when the motors move sideways, the distance is typically about half of that, particularly on surfaces like hard, short carpet. The angle of the rollers on the wheels can influence this movement, affecting the efficiency of sideways motion. Overall, the performance of mecanum wheels varies based on surface conditions and roller angles.

Say you have a robot with mecanum wheels and move all the motors forward one rotation, and the robot moves forwards x cm. If you make the robot go sideways where each of the motors moves one rotation, does the robot move sideways x cm as well? Does it depend on the angle of the rollers on the wheels?

Speaking from experience, Mecanum side-to-side motion is about 1/2 the forward back motion, on a hard, short carpeted surface.

Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Today I took a photograph of the inside of my water meter box because today is one of the rare days that my water meter is not submerged in water. Here is the photograph that I took of my water meter with the cover on: Here is a photograph I took of my water meter with the cover off: I edited the photograph to draw a red circle around a knob on my water meter. Is that knob that I drew a red circle around my meter...
