Exploring the Photon Belt and Our Solar System

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the claim that the Sun orbits the Pleiades constellation, specifically around the star Alcyone, as part of a concept known as the "Photon Belt." This idea suggests that the Solar System takes approximately 24,000 years to complete an orbit around the Pleiades and that it has been passing through the Photon Belt since 1962, with a full impact expected around 2011. However, there is no scientific evidence supporting the existence of a Photon Belt or the notion that the Sun orbits anything other than the galactic center. Mainstream science confirms that Alcyone is about 440 light-years away, and the Sun is actually moving away from it. The conversation critiques the concept as "Make-believe Science," emphasizing the lack of empirical support for such claims and questioning whether the Sun could orbit anything besides the galactic core.

Ok i came across this mumbo jumbo and i just wanted to know if there's any scientific proof that the sun is orbiting some other body besides the galactic center here's what he says

"Central to an understanding of the Photon Belt is the fact that our Solar System is a part of theconstellation we call the Pleiades, also known since ancient times as the “Seven Sisters”. Dr.Halley, who studied the positions of the stars, began to stumble onto this when he noticed that atleast three stars of the Pleiades were not in their positions as recorded by the early Greeks. Bookson ancient Greek and ancient Chinese mythology are filled with references to the “Seven sisters”constellation. Our Solar System orbits around the Pleiadian constellation’s central sun, calledAlcyone. Our Solar System takes approximately 24,000 years to make one complete orbit aroundthe Pleiades. As you can see from the drawing, twice in that complete orbit we pass through the Photon Belt which is at right angles to the plane of our orbit around the Pleiadian constellation. Our passage through the Photon Belt takes about 2,000 years. We have been in the fringes of thisBelt increasingly since about 1962, and we are expected to have made full impact with it about the year 2011..."

then he gets crazy talking about Atlantis and aliens and accension and all sorts of other crackpottery that i won't go into but if you want to have a good laugh http://www.indianinthemachine.com/photonbelt.html

anyways back to the point at hand many other people refer to this "photon belt" and us orbiting the Pleiades is there any truth to us obiting anything besides the galactic core?

Physics news on Phys.org
from the wikipedia:
"There is no scientific evidence for the existence of any sort of "photon belt"."

"Alcyone is a star in the Pleiades cluster, some 440 light-years away. The core of the Pleiades cluster is approximately 8 light-years across. The Sun, and with it the Earth, is moving away from Alcyone."

This is from "Mainstream Science", unlike "Make-believe Science" where you make things up or no reason, without anything to support it, and sell some books about it.

lol Make-believe Science i like that term haha does the sun orbit anything besides the galactic center anyone know?

There is no reason it shouldn't. Sort of like the moon orbits around the Earth with the combined system orbiting around the sun.

Unless coriolis force has some affect, but I would imagine it is weak enough that it wouldn't.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
