Finding the Best Software for Circuit Simulation & Analysis

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around finding the best software for circuit simulation and analysis, with a focus on SPICE-based options. HSPICE is highlighted as the gold standard, though it may be less user-friendly compared to integrated packages like MicroCAP. Users are encouraged to specify their simulation needs, as the choice of software often depends on the type of circuits being simulated. Alternatives to SPICE, such as Ansoft/HFSS and its free student version, are also mentioned. Overall, the conversation emphasizes the importance of selecting software based on specific requirements and ease of use.

Welcome to the PF. There are a number of SPICE packages available. Which one you use depends a bit on what you will use it for. HSPICE is the gold standard, but is not generally as easy to use as the more integrated packages like MicroCAP. Here is a thread where we talked about some different packages:

Pls suggest any other software other than SPICE,Tina and NI

TINA from TI and the National Instruments package are both SPICE-based. Pretty much all circuit simulation software is based on a SPICE core.

What are you trying to do? What kind of circuits do you want to simulate? Why do you not want to use software that is based on SPICE? Do you hate Berkeley or something?

My Electrical Eng. department works almost exclusively with Ansoft/HFSS for simulations.

You can download a free student version of Ansoft designer, Ansoft Designer SV
