Windows XP Pro Hard Drive Space Limit: 250GB?

AI Thread Summary
Windows XP Professional does not have a specific cap on hard drive space, as it can theoretically handle up to 1.1 exabytes or 500 petabytes per file. However, practical limitations may arise from the BIOS or drive controller capabilities, which depend on the motherboard. Users with larger drives, such as 250 GB or 200 GB, report successful usage, but partitioning the drive is recommended for better organization and potentially improved load times. In some cases, an Ultra ATA/133 PCI adapter card may be necessary to fully utilize larger hard drives.

Does anyone know if Windows XP Professional has a cap on how much hard drive space it can see? I'm planning on getting a 250 GB hard drive and putting it on there.

nope i don't think so - well not at that sort of size, I have a 200Gb hard disk that it seems to love! Perhaps though you might want to partition it to help you remember where everything is and to speed up load up times in browser windows.

Good. I think I'll get the drive then.

Windows XP's maximum space level must be tremendous since i think it can initialize memory at 1.1 exabytes or 500 petabytes per file

However, there may be a limitation on what your BIOS/drive controller can handle... it depends on your on your motherboard. You may need to buy a Ultra ATA/133 PCI adapter card. This may be useful http://www.md4pc.com/questions/58.htm

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
