HELP: Simscape for structural engineering

AI Thread Summary
Simscape's application in structural engineering is being explored, particularly its relevance to structural dynamics, which the user finds challenging due to a lack of experience. The user seeks recommendations for reading materials or tutorials to better understand Simscape, as the resources available on the Mathworks website are insufficient. There is a noted frustration with the complexity of building models in Simscape. Additionally, the user inquires about software that could assist in identifying voids in building collapses to enhance rescue operations. Overall, the discussion highlights a need for better resources and tools in the context of structural engineering.

Hello,

I am assisting my professor by investigating the usefulness of Simscape in structural engineering. I have just recently obtained a copy of Matlab, and I am totally unfamiliar with the entire program as a whole. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good reading materials or tutorials for using Simscape? I ran through the examples at the Mathworks website, but it was not nearly enough. What I have gathered from exploring the Simscape libraries is that this program will likely only be useful in structural dynamics (which I, of course, have zero experience in). If I am mistaken, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your replies.

134 views and no replies :/ I guess no structural engineers use this software. So far in my experience, it has been quite the PITA to built models in.

everyone is rare but some people are more common than others.

Why would you post this in my Simscape thread?

sorry hit the wrong thread

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
Thread 'How can I find the cleanout for my building drain?'
I am a long distance truck driver, but I recently completed a plumbing program with Stratford Career Institute. In the chapter of my textbook Repairing DWV Systems, the author says that if there is a clog in the building drain, one can clear out the clog by using a snake augur or maybe some other type of tool into the cleanout for the building drain. The author said that the cleanout for the building drain is usually near the stack. I live in a duplex townhouse. Just out of curiosity, I...
I have an engine that uses a dry sump oiling system. The oil collection pan has three AN fittings to use for scavenging. Two of the fittings are approximately on the same level, the third is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the other two. The system ran for years with no problem using a three stage pump (one pressure and two scavenge stages). The two scavenge stages were connected at times to any two of the three AN fittings on the tank. Recently I tried an upgrade to a four stage pump...
