Hobby project - Bluetooth device

In summary, the speaker is a sophomore looking to create a button that will send an alert to their smartphone when pressed. They are unsure of where to begin and are seeking advice on websites or forums that can guide them in the right direction. They also mention using HAYES AT commands and a programmable bluetooth module.

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my question. If it's not, I am kindly requesting some assistance as to which website/forum to go to.
Here's my question:

I'm a sophomore and I'm trying to do a side engineering project to put on my resume and maybe eventually turn it into a senior project years from now.

Basically, I want to create a button whereby if i press the button, I get an alert on my smartphone. I'm not sure where exactly I'm going with this eventually but this is just a start for me.

My question is: how do I begin? I know I want the communication to be via bluetooth. Is there any website that can point me to the right direction.

I appreciate your help and once again, I deeply apologize if this is not the right place for my question.

The most straightforwards way to do this is send a message to the phone using HAYES AT commands. You would need a programmable bluetooth module to be triggered by your button.

Best,

Hello,

I can definitely provide some guidance for your hobby project. First, it's great that you are already thinking about how this project can benefit you in the long run, such as adding it to your resume or potentially turning it into a senior project.

To begin, I would suggest doing some research on Bluetooth technology and how it works. This will give you a better understanding of the communication process and what components you will need for your project. You can find a lot of information and resources online, such as tutorials, forums, and even instructional videos.

Once you have a basic understanding of Bluetooth, you can start planning out the design of your button and how it will communicate with your smartphone. You will need to consider factors such as the type of button, the microcontroller or processor you will use, and the programming language you will need to learn.

I would also recommend reaching out to online communities or forums dedicated to DIY electronics projects. You can often find helpful tips, advice, and even step-by-step guides from experienced hobbyists and engineers.

Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for help or guidance if you run into any roadblocks during your project. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop your skills as an engineer. Good luck with your project!
