AI Thread Summary
The solution presented for the mechanics of materials problem requires clarification, particularly regarding the shortening of bar A-B. It should include two terms: one for the un-drilled section and another for the drilled section, which involves an unknown dimension. The shortening of bar B-C is deemed acceptable. Accurate calculations are crucial for the upcoming exam. Ensuring these adjustments will enhance the correctness of the solution.

So basically I'm not sure of the solution and just want someone to tell me if what I did is correct. It's important I have an upcoming exam. Thank you.

Your shortening of bar B-C looks ok.
Your shortening of bar A-B should contain two terms: one expression for the un-drilled portion and one expression for the drilled portion. The latter term will contain your unknown dimension.

thank you a lot !
