AI Thread Summary
A user seeks recommendations for a book that introduces relativistic quantum mechanics using one-forms, similar to Schutz's "A First Course in General Relativity." They share a link to a chapter that appears to be from a book but are unable to identify the author. Another participant successfully identifies the author as Walczak by searching for the first sentence of the chapter, which leads them to a Google Books link confirming Walczak's authorship. The chapter in question is the sixth chapter of Walczak's book titled "Particle Physics in the LHC Era." The discussion highlights the usefulness of one-forms in formulating relativistic quantum mechanics, although specific reasons for this approach are not elaborated upon.

hi!
Do you know about a good book that introduces relativistic quantum mechanics with one-forms (diferential forms) like the book a first course of general relativity of Schutz does?

Why do you think that relativistic QM can be formulated in terms of one-forms?

That's a great deduction! How did you find it?

The page format resembled Andrew Steane's relativity text... so I thought it was him.
But I couldn't find it on his homepage ( https://users.physics.ox.ac.uk/~Steane/teaching/lecture_course.html )

I then googled the entire first sentence...
"The aim of this chapter..." and brought up several close matches at Oxford...
and somehow (i can't recall exactly how I found Walczak... i spent a few minutes in my browser history trying to remember what I did this morning.)
If you google that entire first sentence, the third link is
https://books.google.com/books?isbn=0198748558
where Walczak is an author and the chapter above is the 6th chapter of that book.
The homepage of the textbook is

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
