AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the potential implementation of LaTeX support in message boards to enhance the writing and readability of equations. Participants express enthusiasm for a LaTeX to PNG converter, which would facilitate this feature. Concerns are raised about the computational completeness of LaTeX, suggesting that it could pose security risks without robust access controls. However, one participant, Warren, indicates significant progress in developing a system to convert and display LaTeX input as images, with plans to introduce this functionality soon. The conversation highlights both the technical challenges and the excitement surrounding the upcoming feature.

Is there anyway we can get the message boards to understand Latex commands? Writing equations would be easier, and it would be easier to read.

That would kick ass... a LaTeX to png converter would be all that's needed... I'll ask Greg.

I've been looking into it.

Taht would be cool.

Agreed, LaTeX is the bomb.

The concern is that LaTeX is computationally complete. It would probably be easy to corrupt the board using LaTeX barring some really sophisticated access control.

Like... using the chroot command.

Good news: I've pretty much figured out all that we'll need to do to get the site to convert and display images from latex input. Look for this functionality soon.

Almost time -- I think it's all buttoned up now. If you'd like to give it a try in the mentor's forum, be my guest! Greg wants to introduce the functionality tomorrow.
