AI Thread Summary
The user is experiencing an issue with their CD drive not appearing in "My Computer" on a Windows Vista Premium system. Despite checking the driver manager with no errors reported, the drive briefly reappears after a restart before disappearing again. There is uncertainty about whether this issue is caused by a virus, as the user's AVG antivirus software has not detected any threats. Suggestions include checking if the drive's driver is up to date and considering the possibility of a loose cable connection. To determine if the problem is virus-related, it is recommended to attempt booting from a bootable CD; if successful, it may indicate a virus, while failure could suggest a malfunctioning drive or hardware issue.

Hello,
I have a problem about my disk driver:
My CD disk driver doesn't appear in the "my computer" window. when i noted that error, I checked in driver manager but it didn't show any error. Then i got an idea to restart the computer and the disk driver appeared for a short time and re-disappeared suddenly after 4minutes.
Is that a virus? Or is that a system problem? if it is a virus, i don't why my antivirus can't find it. I use AVG 8.00.
Plz help me.
In case u need to know, my OS is Windows Vista Premium.
My computer is HP Pavilion dv6000 and the CD disk driver is "FIJITSU MHW2120BH ATA Device".

Perhaps a cable is loose inside? Is your driver up to date?

AVG is not that great. To tell if it is a virus, try to boot off a bootable CD. If it works, then it is a virus, otherwise it is probably a bad drive or bad or loose cable.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
