SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on setting up a current flow simulation using FEMM 4.2. The user, Bill, is working with a 16" square copper sheet featuring 2" square input and output terminals, with a current of 1000A. Key issues include configuring boundaries and conductors correctly, as the simulation fails to solve. The lack of familiarity with FEMM 4.2 among forum members highlights the need for more resources or guidance on this specific software version.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of FEMM 4.2 software
  • Knowledge of electrical current flow concepts
  • Familiarity with boundary conditions in simulations
  • Experience with conductor setup in finite element analysis
NEXT STEPS
  • Research FEMM 4.2 documentation for boundary setup guidelines
  • Explore tutorials on configuring conductors in FEMM
  • Learn about troubleshooting common simulation errors in FEMM
  • Investigate examples of current flow problems solved using FEMM
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, researchers, and students working with finite element analysis, particularly those using FEMM for electrical simulations and current flow problems.

I am new to FEMM 4.2 and need help setting up a simple current flow problem. I have a square copper sheet that has input and output terminals (square contacts) in opposite corners and and 1000A flowing across it. The sheet is 16" square and the contacts are 2" square. The sheet is 0.050" and the contacts are 0.25" thick. The part I don't get is setting up the boundaries and setting up the conductors. I start my simulation and it never solves. How do I setup the boundaries and conductors?

Thanks in advance, Bill

Sorry Bill, aparently we can't find anyone familiar with FEMM 4.2.
