AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the referencing practices in a Master's thesis by Maria Dimou, particularly regarding the use of content from a Physics Forums thread. Participants express concern that the thesis does not adequately cite the thread, which contains foundational material used in the thesis. There is a specific mention of the thesis's poor referencing style, as it lists sources at the end without linking them to specific content in the text. Additionally, it is noted that the equations discussed are standard in the field and may not be unique to the referenced thread. The lack of proper attribution raises questions about academic integrity and the importance of transparent referencing in scholarly work.

Are there some quotes from the thread that appear in the thesis? If so can you give examples?

Almost all of the material in the pages 8-11 are taken from the first few posts in the above mentioned thread.

As far as I can see, those equations are standard commutation relations between the generators of the conformal group. I don't think your thread is the only thread that has the equations written down.

However, that MS Thesis has terrible referencing. It justs lists many references at the end of the document, without a particular link in the text to any of them.

EDIT: Well, at least ref.[1] is nowhere mentioned in the text.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
