Problems in explicit dynamics simulation in ANSYS Workbench

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around issues encountered in explicit dynamics simulation using ANSYS Workbench, specifically focusing on the problem of two solids penetrating each other during a shock event. Participants explore various settings and configurations related to contact mechanics and boundary conditions.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Experimental/applied

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes their experience with solids penetrating each other during a simulation, despite attempting various tutorials and configurations.
  • Another participant suggests that the issue may be related to contact settings and recommends checking the contact configurations, particularly the use of automatic contacts.
  • The original poster responds that they have already tried automatic contacts with different friction settings, but the penetration issue persists.
  • A further reply requests clarification on the problem and suggests checking for body interactions if penetration is the main concern.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the cause of the penetration issue, with no consensus reached on a solution or the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Contextual Notes

Some limitations may include missing details on the specific contact settings used and the assumptions made regarding material properties and boundary conditions.

I'm new with ansys if I can help it would be helpful.
the problem is that two solids are shocked, but one of them is going through the other, have already implemented several things different tutorials but the answer is the same. the only question when I change the location fixed support the results change. I've also tried putting speed and standard Earth gravity but I do not lack anything the result.

There is something wrong with your contacts if you getting penetration (one material passing through the other). Looks like you have made your own contacts. Try and see if it works well with automatic contacts. Please list the contact settings you have used.

if I've already tried that contacts are so automatic, I've done with friction and frictionless but the answer remains the same solids are crossed.

thanks for answering.

Can you be a bit more clearer with your problem?

If penetration is your only problem, check for body interactions
