AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on determining the brightness of six identical lightbulbs connected to a battery. The initial assumption was that bulbs 6, 1, and 2 are the brightest due to equal current flow, while bulb 3 is brighter than bulbs 4 and 5, which are equal. However, the correct understanding is that brightness correlates with power, expressed as P=R×I². The final ranking of brightness is bulbs 6, 1, and 2 being the brightest, followed by bulb 3, and then bulbs 4 and 5 being the dimmest. This clarification helps in accurately assessing the brightness of each bulb.

Homework Statement

We have 6 lightbulbs that are identical attached to a battery, and we need to list them from brightest to dimmest.

This is what they look like.

None...?

The Attempt at a Solution

So, my thinking is that bulbs 6,1,2 are the brightest and the same, because the same amount of current is flowing through them, then I think that 3 is brighter than 4 and 5 which are equal...

This is wrong and I don't know why.

I agree with your answer. Why do you think it would be wrong?

I don't know. As long as someone agrees with this, I'll talk to my teacher.

Yes, you are correct.

Hello my friend
Your answer is correct. Brightness of bulbs is proportional power of them.
P=R×I×I
Therefore brightness of bulbs:
6,1,2(are same)>3>4,5(are same)

TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
Thread 'Variable mass system : water sprayed into a moving container'
Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
