The discussion centers on finding affordable alternatives to a required textbook for a Differential Equations class for engineers. The original poster is seeking a cost-effective book that provides similar information to the university's free printed text. Recommendations include Dover books priced between $14 and $20, with a specific suggestion for the Schaum's Outline titled "Modern Introductory Differential Equations." This outline is highlighted for its extensive collection of solved problems and supplementary exercises, making it a valuable resource for students looking to enhance their understanding of the subject.

My DE class (for engineers) requires that the text be printed (for free at university!), and not that saving money is bad, but I wan't a book that can give me the same information for cheap.

I am thinking about these dover books that come $14-$20. Any suggestions?

You couldn't go amiss with the Schaum's Outline entitled, "Modern Introductory Differential Equations". It's in that price range. The great thing about any Schaum's Outline is the massive amount of solved problems and supplementary exercises with answers.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
