AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the relationship between the Hydraulic Grade Line (HGL) and the Energy Grade Line (EGL) at a pump. It highlights that the difference between these two lines represents the velocity head of the fluid. The author presents two graphs: one showing a velocity head at the pump and another where the two lines join, indicating no velocity head. The consensus leans towards the second graph being correct, as the velocity of the fluid at the pump is considered to be zero. Understanding this relationship is crucial for analyzing fluid dynamics in pumping systems.

Homework Statement

the line above shows the energy line of the flowing fluid , whereas the line below shows the hydraulic geade line of flowing fluid , the diffrence between 2 lines is velocity head

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

i have 2 pictures here , the author drew 2 different shape of graph at the pump , in the first picture , there's some velocity head at the pump ( the 2 lines didnt joined together) , whereas in the 2nd picture , 2 lines joined together , which is correct ?

IMO , the second picture is correct , since the velocity of fluid at pump = 0 , am i right ?

bump , which is correct ? or both are correct ?

Thread 'Variable mass system : water sprayed into a moving container'
Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
I was thinking using 2 purple mattress samples, and taping them together, I do want other ideas though, the main guidelines are; Must have a volume LESS than 1600 cubic centimeters, and CAN'T exceed 25 cm in ANY direction. Must be LESS than 1 kg. NO parachutes. NO glue or Tape can touch the egg. MUST be able to take egg out in less than 1 minute. Grade A large eggs will be used.
