Static Charge distribution along textured surfaces

AI Thread Summary
The texture of a surface significantly influences the distribution of static charge, affecting how surfaces attract dust particles. A smooth surface, like a balloon, tends to have a more uniform charge distribution, while a textured surface, such as a football, can create localized areas of higher charge concentration. This variation in charge distribution may lead to differences in dust attraction, with textured surfaces potentially attracting more particles due to increased surface area and charge density in certain areas. The discussion highlights the need for further exploration into how these factors interact in practical scenarios. Understanding these dynamics can enhance applications in materials science and electrostatics.

How does the texture of a surface affect the concentration of charge on that surface?

Say we compare a balloon (smooth) and a football (textured) (ignoring material differences) and give them the same total charge. Then we introduce dust particles. How do the two surfaces attract dust differently? Or are they different at all?

Thread 'Motional EMF in Faraday disc, co-rotating magnet axial mean flux'
So here is the motional EMF formula. Now I understand the standard Faraday paradox that an axis symmetric field source (like a speaker motor ring magnet) has a magnetic field that is frame invariant under rotation around axis of symmetry. The field is static whether you rotate the magnet or not. So far so good. What puzzles me is this , there is a term average magnetic flux or "azimuthal mean" , this term describes the average magnetic field through the area swept by the rotating Faraday...
