AI Thread Summary
A mechanical engineering student nearing the completion of their junior year expresses a strong interest in pursuing a master's degree in nuclear engineering, contemplating both U.S. programs and the University of Zurich (UZH) for its prestigious reputation. The student seeks insights into the advantages of obtaining a degree from UZH beyond its status as a top university, particularly regarding how it compares to elite U.S. degrees in the job market. Recommendations include reaching out to UZH advisors for connections to current students or alumni who can provide firsthand experiences and advice about the program and its recognition in the industry.

Hi guys.
I am a mechanical engineering student working on finishing my junior year. I have always been interested in nuclear engineering (and slightly regret not doing my undergrad in it) and am looking to obtain a master's in it and go work. I am in the U.S. so there are plenty of really good programs to choose from but I have also looked at UZH and am intrigued both at the thought of studying and living abroad as well as obtaining a world-class education. However, I was asked what would be the advantages, other than it being a top university, of getting my degree at UZH? In addition, would it be looked upon the same as an elite degree from a U.S. university? These answers are pretty hard to quantify but I would appreciate anyone's input who knows about the program or has worked with someone who has gone through it.

This a very specific request. Best bet is to contact UZH advisors and see if they can give you a list of grad students or grads that are working that could offer some advice.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
