i signed up for my first edx course mastering quantum mechanics from MITx and i am currently considering upgrading to an ID verified student for $100, is it worth it?

I am following nicely through the course, i did most of the stuff as self study (but some concepts had some holes and i am fixing them) so i think i can follow till the end.

I will get a certificate after finishing the course - but i don't know if certificates frim edX are recognised in academic intitutions.
 
Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) .
