What are the reactions at the support? (momentum)

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on confusion regarding the signs in the momentum formula presented in an online course. The user is unsure about the direction of the torque indicated in a diagram related to a specific exercise. They note that a negative sign is applied to a 2ft, 200lb moment, leading them to infer the torque acts in the opposite direction. Clarification on the signs and their implications for torque direction is sought. Understanding these signs is crucial for correctly interpreting the mechanics involved.

I am taking this course online, and in one of the slides there is this example, but i can't figure out the signs in the momentum formula.
THANKS!

It's not immediately clear to me just from the diagram what the direction of the couple (torque) is supposed to be at the end of the object, but given that they put a negative sign on the 2ft, 200lb moment (not momentum), I infer that the torque is in the opposite direction than that.
