AI Thread Summary
Recommendations for online bookstores focus on finding affordable options for college textbooks, particularly for subjects like Calculus. Many participants suggest that while Amazon is a popular choice, specialized online bookstores that cater to college students may offer better pricing. Half.com is highlighted for its good deals, and there is mention of the option to purchase international editions, although this practice is legally questionable in the U.S. Other platforms like Abebooks are also recommended for both U.S. and international editions. Discount codes are sought after to further reduce costs.

I'm going to be going back to school as a refresher. I'd like to know people's recommendations for an online bookstore. The local bookstores tend to gouge you. I don't yet know what Calculus book I will need, but I was thinking an online one that deals in large volume would be better for pricing. I could check Amazon, but I was wondering if other online places that specialize in college books might be better.

And ones that have discount codes would be even better.

Half.com has some good deals, I shop there quite often for my books.

If you want cheap books, you can purchase international books, but you'll be breaking the law because they are not for resale in the US. Many students do this, anyway.

I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
