Why is conservation of angular momentum failing in this case

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the application of conservation of angular momentum in a scenario involving two cylinders in contact. The original poster's calculations do not align with the expected answer, leading to confusion about the method used. Participants emphasize the importance of sharing accessible images to clarify the calculations and discrepancies in answers. Guidance is provided on how to upload images to facilitate better communication. The conversation highlights the need for clear visual aids in problem-solving discussions.

3.for the above question I tried applying conservation of angular momentum about the point of contact where the cyclinders touch each other but my answer does not match with the answer given by them .why is my method wrong?

You can’t link to google drive images like that - you might see them, but no one else can access them.

Even with a working image (in a new post of you can’t edit the old one any more), it would help to see what exactly you did, and what the two different answers are.

It would be helpful if you could tell me how to upload an image because I do not know how to do it

You will find the Upload botton right below the input text window.

Download it to your computer, then use the upload function of the forum.

If the image is publicly accessible on the web you can directly include it in the way you tried, but it has to be accessible by everyone to make that work.

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
