This is something I’m noticing more and more. In many cases a significant number of possible solutions are ruled out simply on the grounds of being used already. In this case GRAIL, RIVAL, VIRAL. All used.

I could have used GUSTY as a filter word, which would have guaranteed an answer in 4, but I went for the kill by choosing the most probable word.

My preferred words were (in order): NICHE KNIFE NIECE EYING EKING.

I was torn apart selecting between NICHE and KNIFE as my first guess and EYING and EKING were not really considered.

Accent dependent. Outside the US, most would use /niːʃ/. See also https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/niche
Thanks, I really like that wiktionary link, I think that site is a lot better than it was last time I visited (long ago). The audio clips are pretty cool!

My distribution has evolved quite significantly towards lower numbers over time. For example, my last fail was 418 games ago and the streak before that was something like 270. Most fails came very early before I had any sort of strategy.
I am now (0, 16, 288, 409, 188, 42, 5, 948).
This means the last 159 games since posting the last one have gone (0, 10, 57, 71, 20, 1, 0, 159). Wordle is definitely getting easier with a lot of words used up alread.

I couldn't identify which word was the most probable, so I went for a filter word (and got lucky).

Maybe I'm not fully awake yet, but with the same first, middle, and last letters, they all looked the same.

⬛⬛⬛⬛🟨 [HOURI] filter - 3 left: BLISS MISSY TWIST
🟨🟨🟨🟨⬛ [WITTY] filter - 1 left
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 [TWIST]

I couldn't see one more probable than the other with BLISS MISSY TWIST, so I had to go with a filter word.

I upgraded my program to find the more appropriate seed word. It selects it from among all the possible answers left - so I can get it on the 1st try - and it evaluates the count ##x## for the possible outcomes (~ 1000) for every possible pattern ##i## of 🟩, 🟨 or ⬛ (238 of them!). I then sum up all the ##\frac{1}{x_i}## and choose the one with the highest value. It is not very efficient, it takes 30-45 min to compute. We'll see how it performs.
