SUMMARY

The correct placement of an object in relation to a magnifying glass, specifically a convex lens, is crucial for creating a virtual image. The object must be positioned between the lens and its focal point (F). This placement allows the magnifying glass to produce an enlarged virtual image that can be viewed comfortably.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of convex lenses and their properties
  • Knowledge of focal points in optics
  • Basic principles of image formation in lenses
  • Familiarity with virtual versus real images
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of lens optics and image formation
  • Explore the mathematical equations related to lens focal lengths
  • Learn about different types of lenses and their applications
  • Investigate practical experiments using magnifying glasses to observe image formation
USEFUL FOR

Students studying optics, educators teaching physics concepts, and hobbyists interested in optical devices will benefit from this discussion.

I am having trouble trying to work out where an object should be placed with regards to a magnifying glass.

Should it be located between the lens and the focal point F to create a virtual image?

many thanks?
