AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating the intensity of X-rays transmitted through a bone with a thickness of 0.7 cm and an attenuation coefficient of 0.7 cm-1. The formula used is I = I₀e-μx, where I represents the transmitted intensity. Participants clarify that the correct answer for transmitted intensity is 60%, while 40% represents the absorbed intensity. There is consensus among users that the original calculation leading to 40% was a misunderstanding. The final conclusion is that the transmitted intensity through the bone is indeed 60%.

Homework Statement

A radiographer in a hospital directs a parallel beam of X-Rays at the leg bone of a patient. The attenuation coefficient of bone is 0.7cm-1.

To 1 sig fig. what is the intensity of X-Rays transmitted through bone of thickness 0.7cm?

Homework Equations

I = I₀e-μx

Where I is transmitted intensity, I₀ is original intensity, μ is attenuation coefficient and x is thickness.

The Attempt at a Solution

This is a multiple choice question and the answer is 40%. I’m pretty sure this answer is wrong. I got 60% - could someone confirm? Or have I made a silly mistake?

Thanks

I also get 60%. The answer, 40%, is the absorbed intensity.

Thread 'Collision of a bullet on a rod-string system: query'
In this question, I have a question. I am NOT trying to solve it, but it is just a conceptual question. Consider the point on the rod, which connects the string and the rod. My question: just before and after the collision, is ANGULAR momentum CONSERVED about this point? Lets call the point which connects the string and rod as P. Why am I asking this? : it is clear from the scenario that the point of concern, which connects the string and the rod, moves in a circular path due to the string...
