Finding Integers for x^2-2x-3 Divisibility by 8: Help with Mod Problem
Homework Statement For what integers is x^2-2x-3 divisible by 8. give answer x = a list of natural numbers (mod 8) Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I thought x(x-2) = 3 (mod 8) and tried to find all values that satisfied this. But got really stuck. I also tried...- Svensken

Mapping functions and bijections
Homework Statement Hello! I am stuck, having wondered about this question for quite some time now and I am not too sure how to solve it Denote the xy-plane by P. Let C be some general curve in P defined by the equation f(x,y) = 0, where f(x,y) is some algebraic expression involving x...- Svensken

Is There a Fractal Program for Mac That Can Generate Fractals from Drawings?
Hello! I am currently looking for a fractal program for my mac, preferably with free download :) I want to be able to draw a pattern and the program compares this to a fractal that it can generate (hope that makes sense). I mean that instead of entering the complex number in say a julia set...- Svensken

Complex number question (i think )
Complex number question (i think :) ) Homework Statement Solve the following equations in C : (a) z^2 + 3z + 2 = 0 The Attempt at a Solution I thought i should solve the quadratic for z, (z+1)(z+2)=0 and then somehow say that: 1=x+iy I don't really understand how to go...- Svensken

Graduate Are Proto-Photons the Only Matter at the Outer Limits of the Universe?
Dear Marcus Thank you for your great response, it cleared a lot of thing up for me (for now at least:biggrin:) I now understand what is meant by the cosmological principle somewhat! From what you say it has been the most successful assumption upon which most data has been explained... -

Graduate Are Proto-Photons the Only Matter at the Outer Limits of the Universe?
Hi As far a i understood the question. 1. You think of a flat and infinite universe, which is a good candidate at the moment. 2. You wonder if there can be matter everywhere in this infinite flat universe. I have been thinking about this too, if there is matter spread out everywhere in... -

Can Internet Security Ever Match the Safety of Physical Systems?
As with everything within hacking: - You can hack system "X" if there is a hole that allows system "X" to be hacked. - Since we are humans, system "X" will almost always be open to a dedicated hacker (pref: "cracker"). - We can protect system "X" but we need to be ahead of the game.- Svensken

Undergrad Can Light Travel Faster Than Speed of Light
Hey! If you fire a gun standing still the bullet will travel at a certain velocity. If you fire a gun sitting in an airplane, the bullet's velocity will be speed of plane plus the the velocity due to the gun. If you fire a bullet with a light being emitted from it: will the velocity of...- Svensken

Inclined Surface: Velocity and angle of incline
i was thinking: mgh turns into 1/2 mv^2 (i am neglecting friction) rearranging gives v = sqroot(2gh) Since g is equal to acceleration due to gravity it becomes g =a*sin(angle) Is this correct?- Svensken
