Struggling with a second-order differential equation
Not sure what you mean by initial conditions and having a complete statement of the DE. I don't know what you mean by the general solution the differential equation, I haven't started University and my knowledge of differential equations is limited to first-order differential equations. I...- tomfitzyuk

Undergrad Is My Homemade Encryption Method Secure Enough for Real-World Use?
When does a code become decipherable? Surely, given a finate number of data points (i.e. cipertext) there is an infinite number of solutions to it? What information needs to be known for it to be breakable?- tomfitzyuk

Struggling with a second-order differential equation
Hey, For my Physics coursework I'm trying to show how the equation to describe simple harmonic motion, this is where I'm up to now: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4153/untitled8ph.jpg x displacement; t is time; k is spring constant; m is mass. A is an unknown constant; b is an unknown...- tomfitzyuk

Coursework on Properties of Aluminium
Hey, I'm doing some coursework on the properties of aluminium and why aluminium is a good material for computer cases. Now, in the coursework I must have a section on some sort of calculation but am clueless as to what calculation I could do (i.e. if you was doing nylon for a fishling line...- tomfitzyuk

Let a thousand guilty men go to save 1 innocent person
He would be found guilty, the 1,000 felons will stay locked up He will be found not-guilty, the 1,000 felons will be released into the public Is this right? Surely it should be: He would be found guilty, the 1,000 felons will be released into the public He will be found not-guilty, the 1,000...- tomfitzyuk

Mathematica Mathematical formula of a human being
I believe this is possible (though, despite my lack of knowledge of it, I think it relies on the string theory and it's potential to be able to use it to predict what happens sub-atomically) though terribly difficult.- tomfitzyuk

Can Artificial Intelligence ever reach Human Intelligence?
I believe one day AI will become far more powerful than the human brain. I cannot explain why I believe this with words, I just think that, given enough time, it will happen.- tomfitzyuk

Fibonacci Phi - The Golden Ratio
Yeah e is much more fascinating, it appears in all sort of places. Most amazingly is places such as expotential growth and when you differentiate logorithmic functions. I suppose those two are similar but it's still amazing. sin72/sin36 = Phi 2sin54 = Phi These are things I found out...- tomfitzyuk

LaTeX Tips for Solving Typesetting Problems in LaTeX
Thanks for the reply, what you posted enabled me to be able to do a lot but it's not my most preferred layout, is this possible? http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/4580/example7kf.jpg The lines just show how I would prefer it to be aligned. In particular I would want the equation to start...- tomfitzyuk

LaTeX Tips for Solving Typesetting Problems in LaTeX
Hey, I'm trying to learn how to use LaTeX and while I think it's easy how to form equations and symbols, the thing I find most difficult is laying things out how I'd prefer. I wanted it to look like this but couldn't work out how to do it, if anybody has any tips, examples, tutorials or...- tomfitzyuk

Graduate How can I prove a^3+b^3+c^3>=3abc using w=(abc)^1/3/?
Although this is slightly off-topic I don't how: a^4 + b^4 + c^4 + d^4 === 4abcd Let: a = 1 b = 2 c = 4 d = 7 1^4 + 2^4 + 4^4 + 7^4 = 2674 However: 4*1*2*4*7 = 224 I'm confused :S- tomfitzyuk
