Wavelength limits of the Lyman and Paschen series of Hydrogen

Homework Statement



Use the Bohr theory to find the series wavelength limits of the Lyman and Paschen series of hydrogen.

Homework Equations



\lambda=\lambdalimit(n2)/(n2-n02)

Lyman: n0=1
Paschen: n0=3

The Attempt at a Solution



The solutions are 91.13 nm (Lyman) and 820.1 nm (Paschen) but I do not know the process of finding them.

There's another equation relating the wavelength of an emitted photon to the quantum numbers n and n_0...use that equation and take the limit as n\to\infty (why does this provide the limiting value of \lambda?:wink: )

Hi, I had an exam and I completely messed up a problem. Especially one part which was necessary for the rest of the problem.
